The Belgian Religious Foundation criticized the intervention of Minister of Justice Vincent van Quickenborne, who revoked the official recognition of the Belgian Islamic Representation Board, which is the representative of Muslims in the country, and reported that "Islamic faith is under a recurring threat".
In a written statement from the foundation, it was mentioned that van Quickenborne created a new non-profit organization on his own initiative on June 11, and is preparing to recognize this structure as the new representative of Muslims.
"This association is neither representative nor legitimate before Belgian Muslims. The Belgian Religious Foundation, with its network of 70 mosques, condemns this intervention in the organization and representation of Belgian Muslims," the foundation said in a statement.
"We note once again with great sadness that the rule of law has been completely violated by politics through repeated interventions. This is a real danger to our constitutional rights and democracy. We invite all responsible politicians, national and international human rights institutions to raise their voices against this injustice. Freedom of religion is a fundamental right that is enshrined in both the constitution and the European Convention on Human Rights and that every public authority must respect," the statement added.
In the statement, it was also noted that the Muslim community would not accept these interventions and would apply to legal authorities.
