According to the report published under the title "2023 Mid-Year Report: Anti-Muslim Hate Speech Rallies in India", more than 250 hate-mongering rallies targeting Muslims were held in 17 states in the first half of this year.
The report stated that these rallies, where dangerous conspiracy theories targeting Muslims were spread and calls for violence, armament and socio-economic boycotts were made, tended to increase after the nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power in 2014, and many government members made similar statements.
The report stated that 80 percent of the rallies were held in the states and union territories where the BJP is in power, and it was noted that the states of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat took the lead in this regard.
The report mentioned that hate incidents increased especially in March, when the Indian Ram Navami festival was celebrated, 1 person died and shops and mosques were attacked.
