If Tatour was not of Palestinian roots, the Israeli Occupation authorities wouldn’t have detained her over a poem. Inequality before the law is the first step to pave the way for the enforcement of “Jewish nation-state” law.
The Israeli Occupation authorities, however, didn’t and won’t convict any of the extremist Jews and rabbis who incite for violence against the Palestinian civilians. The former Israeli Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein had ruled in 2012 to close an investigation into the contents of Torat Hamelech (The Law of the King), which argues that it is permissible in certain circumstances to kill the non-Jewish children and babies of Israel’s enemies since “it is clear that they will grow to harm us.”
Israeli rabbis’ incitement to murder the Palestinian children is not considered as evidence to indict the extremist rabbis for incitement, as their Jewish identity gives them immunity from prosecution that is officially and constitutionally guaranteed under the latest “Jewish nation-state” law. Unlike the Palestinian poet Dareen Tatour, the Israeli Jews are considered to be above the law in a country claiming to be “the only democracy in the Middle East.”
The ruling to detain Tatour for five months will not deter the Palestinian poet from exposing the image of the Israeli Occupation nor will it dissuade the Palestinian people from continuing their struggle against the occupation until their rights are re-gained.
