According to Taş, former AKP mayor Menderes Türel increased the number of people at the executive boards of municipal companies to 10 from five and further paid annual wages to new board members which climbed as high as 360,000 lira ($63.000).

“They have turned the companies into their backyards somehow. More money is paid from the wallets of the people of Antalya so as to give wages to some people, so as to make some people profits,” Taş said.

“When you take into account all companies,  there is an extra payment of 1 million lira ($175,000), we do not find this ethical,” the politician said.

Türel, a mayor who had full support of the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, lost the local polls on March 31.
