Sheikh Ahmed Yasin, who was born in al-Jura village of Asalan city of Palestine in 1937, was left without a father when he was only three years old. While Sheikh Ahmed Yasin was growing up under the auspices of his mother, he migrated to Gaza, which would become the backbone of the Palestinian resistance after the Israeli regime occupied Askalan in 1948. When he was a primary school student, he became paralyzed after his neck was broken in 1952, but this situation did not take away his determination to read. After primary and high school education, Ahmed Yasin, who was educated in the world-famous education center Al-Azhar in Egypt, worked as a teacher in the following years.
WHAT HE ALL DID, CHALLENGED INVADERS
Sheikh Ahmed Yasin, who faced the tyranny of the Israeli regime from the first years of his life and watched the occupation of his homeland step by step, began to systematically challenge the occupation with Israel's occupation of all of Palestine in 1967.
Accordingly, he established the Islamic Center in Gaza.
While the invading Israeli regime was seriously disturbed by the struggle established by Sheikh Ahmed Yasin, Ahmed Yasin was detained several times for this reason.
Sheikh Ahmed Yasin, who did not compromise his determined stance against the occupation despite the intimidation and threatening moves of the Zionists, was sentenced to 13 years in prison in 1982.
While Sheikh Ahmed Yasin was liberated as a result of the prisoner exchange between Israel and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine - General Command (PFLP - GC) in 1985, the date that was critical for the Palestinian resistance was approaching.
HE FOUNDED HAMAS, THE HONOR OF THE UMMAH
Sheikh Ahmed Yasin, who played an important role in raising awareness and mobilizing the people against the occupation after the occupation of the whole of Palestine, had the mental perspective of the Muslim Brotherhood movement. Sheikh Ahmed Yasin, who struggled against the Israeli occupation with various efforts until 1987, had the opinion that a resistance movement was needed to organize the actual struggle against Israel. In this context, in consultation with the general administrative level of the Muslim Brotherhood movement, it was decided to establish a resistance movement in the Palestinian territories. As a result of these consultations, the Islamic Resistance Movement (HAMAS), which will mark the Palestinian resistance, was established.
REJECTED COMPROMISE PROPOSALS
Sheikh Ahmed Yasin, the founder of HAMAS and the spiritual leader of the Palestinians, was not left alone during his detention. The occupying Israeli regime, which often made offers to Ahmed Yasin and demanded concessions in exchange for his release, was met with unwavering faith. So much so that Sheikh Ahmed Yasin, who was offered to be released in exchange for announcing that he recognized Israel and had a positive view on the signed autonomy agreements, replied as follows:
"Even if you make me a condition that I not eat watermelon when I go out, I still won't accept it. Because I do not accept the occupation regime as an interlocutor so that I can accept its conditions.”
ISRAEL HAD TO RELEASE SHEIKH AHMED YASIN
Sheikh Ahmed Yasin, whose expressions of “For me, 100 years in prison is better than making some concessions in return” were imprinted in the minds, was getting his freedom on September 30, 1997, after being imprisoned for nearly eight and a half years.
When the MOSSAD agents who attempted to assassinate HAMAS's Political Unit Head Khalid Meshal in Amman, the capital of Jordan, were caught by Meshal's bodyguards and handed over to the police, Prime Minister of the Israeli regime of the time, Netanyahu, had to release Ahmed Yasin.
After being released from the Zionist prisons, Sheikh Ahmed Yasin, who was taken to Jordan due to his poor health and treated, returned to Gaza after a while. After returning to Gaza, which is the backbone of the Palestinian resistance, Ahmed Yasin, who actively took the lead of the resistance, continued to be the nightmare of the Israeli regime. Despite his release, Sheikh Ahmed Yasin, who continues to be targeted by Israel, survived various assassination attempts and managed to escape.
BECOME THE NUMBER ONE NAME OF THE PALESTINIAN RESISTANCE
Sheikh Ahmed Yasin left an indelible mark on the minds of the Palestinians with the HAMAS movement, he was the founder of. In this context, HAMAS has performed important services by creating a social assistance network, as the Muslim Brotherhood did in Egypt. While taking a tough stance against bribery and corruption, important victories were also achieved against the Israeli regime. In this direction, hundreds of Zionists were killed with the actions carried out by HAMAS. Sheikh Ahmed Yasin, who instilled the idea that Palestinian lands cannot be compromised, in the minds of Palestinians, was the number one name of the attacks against Israel.
AFTER A MORNING PRAYER, HE PASSED AWAY
Sheikh Ahmed Yasin, who wrote his name in the history of Palestinian resistance with golden letters, was martyred by the Zionist Israeli regime in an air attack against Gaza on March 22, 2004. On his way home from the mosque after the morning prayer in his wheelchair, the missiles fired by the occupying Israel, Ahmed Yasin, who was its target, passed away. 17 years after his martyrdom, Sheikh Ahmed Yasin's struggle continues to set an example for all Muslims. Today, many Muslims who still follow the path of Sheikh Ahmed Yasin embellish the fears of the occupying Israeli regime.
HE HAS BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT THE MUSLIMS WHICH WERE SILENT AGAINST THE OPPRESSION
Sheikh Ahmed Yasin, who passed away after a dignified life, was reproachful for the silence of the Muslims of the world against what happened in Gaza and Palestine a year before he took his last breath. Addressing the ummah with heart-shattering expressions, Ahmed Yasin, "We resisted, rushed forward and did not escape!" with his expressions, he was describing the glorious life he had lived.
Complaining about Muslims who remained silent in the face of persecution in the letter he wrote to the Ummah, Ahmed Yasin said, "Oh Allah! Blood spilled, chastity touched, honor violated, children orphaned, mothers who lost their sons, widowed women, destroyed houses and spoiled crops, I'm complaining to you, for your sake, I'm complaining to you! Our strength has been scattered... Our unity has been broken... Our paths have diverged... We complain to you about the weakness of our people and the inability of our ummah to help us and defeat the enemy!”
EPIC STANCE AGAINST ISRAEL
While HAMAS was the engine of the Intifada that started on December 8, 1987, Sheikh Ahmed Yasin was the leader of the Palestinian resistance. Sheikh Ahmed Yasin, who played a very important role in the Intifada process, was arrested by the Israeli regime on May 18, 1989. While Ahmed Yasin's detention was burning the flame of Palestinian resistance, Ahmed Yasin, who was brought before the court on January 3, 1990, was showing a historical stance.
“This court does not have the legal right and authority to try me. Because this court was established by the invaders. Therefore, it is completely illegitimate and illegal,” he said.
Sheikh Ahmed Yasin, who challenged Zionism by “Aiming to destroy Israel and establish an Islamic state instead,” he was sentenced to life imprisonment on the grounds that he founded “an illegal (!) organization.”
