Saadet Party Deputy Chairman and Istanbul Deputy Mustafa Kaya made a written press statement about the successive hikes and the troubles in the economy.

Emphasizing that the citizens are having a hard time, Kaya noted that the balance between income groups has deteriorated due to wrong economic policies.

“IT DAMAGES SOCIAL PEACE”

Kaya stated that the guarantee of social peace in a country is the middle income group.

"This group can also be defined as social segments that are self-sufficient without the need for income support from the state or any other institution. Unfortunately, middle-income group in Turkey is becoming low-income day by day. Implemented wrong economic policies harm this group and thus social peace. In our country, in 2021, the ratio of middle income group was 70%, low income group was 15% and high income group was around 15%. These ratios have completely turned upside down in 2022. The proportion of our middle-income people decreased from 70 percent to 20 percent. The share of low-income people sadly increased from 15% to 60%, while the rate of high-income people was 20%. As the rich got richer, the people started to get poorer and the poor got poorer," Kaya said.

"ECONOMIC RISKS THREAT THE FAMILY INSTITUTION"

Touching on the difficulties faced by the middle-income group, Kaya made following statements:

"Especially the problems of the middle income group contain all kinds of risks. One of the most important risks is the threats to the family institution due to the problems experienced through economic deprivation. Our workers, civil servants, retirees, and artisans whose incomes have fallen tragically, who cannot reach a decently livable wage, are being dragged into a vortex of despair from struggling with material and moral problems. More than half of the workers are trying to live on the minimum wage at the poverty line. The minimum wage has now become the basic wage. In order for the advice of 'Let the people live so that the state can live', the necessary economic conditions must first be provided to our people who deserve a dignified life. Let's not forget that it is easier to build a healthy future than to save the day."
