Continuing its efforts to expand the fiber infrastructure in Turkey, Türk Telekom made a press release on internet infrastructure and 5G.
In the statement made by Türk Telekom CEO Ümit Önal, it was stated that the fiber network, which was 304,000 kilometers at the end of 2019, increased by 22.3% to 372,000 kilometers at the end of the first quarter of 2022.
Türk Telekom CEO Ümit Önal stated that they are open to cooperation in fiber infrastructure works in Turkey.
"Who will put what on the table for the joint infrastructure company? We have always said yes to a joint infrastructure formation that aims to invest together in all new areas that have not yet completed the infrastructure, and we are saying it now. We are against repetitive investments, but we are ready for any kind of cooperation that will lead to new investments. I can proudly say that we have fiberized 100 percent of the Historic Peninsula. Moreover, this includes the Grand Bazaar, which has been considered the heart of Istanbul's trade and tourism for centuries. We continue to fiberize Turkey at full speed, regardless of old, new or distant," he said.
“SEEKING ANOTHER SOLUTION DOES NOT LOOK MEANINGFUL”
Referring to the frequently talked about common infrastructure company, Ümit Önal, referring to the examples in Europe regarding this issue, "We see that the most common model that ensures the use of fiber investments by all operators in the world, especially in the countries where the European acquis is implemented, is the use of the infrastructure of the incumbent operator. It does not seem meaningful for us to look for another solution instead of a model that has been successfully implemented for almost 30 years and has many examples of this, and whose legal framework was drawn by the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) in our country," he added.
