The tragedy of approximately 300 Turkish women detained in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, poses a serious problem both in humanitarian and legal terms.

A call is made for these women, who are citizens of the Republic of Turkey, to be extradited to Turkey and to be given a fair trial by the Turkish legal system.

This dramatic situation poses serious problems both from a humanitarian and legal perspective.

Some jurists interpret the experiences of these women during and after their arrest as contrary to the basic principles of international law...

They point out that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights guarantees the right to a fair trial and the right to protection against arbitrary detention.

THEY ARE BEING HELD WITHOUT CONCRETE EVIDENCE

Women held captive in Rufasa Prison have been arrested by Iraqi authorities for various reasons.

Most were detained for alleged links to the DAESH terrorist organization, but most were sentenced to long prison sentences without any concrete evidence.

Deprived of their right to a fair trial, these women continue their lives under difficult conditions in a foreign country, far from their families.

Turkish women held in Rusafa Prison are deprived of their basic human rights.

Access to health services is limited, hygiene conditions are inadequate and nutritional opportunities are quite limited.

These women, who are under great psychological pressure, struggle every day in the hope of being reunited with their loved ones.

MEETINGS WITH THE IRAQI GOVERNMENT DID NOT PROVIDE POSITIVE RESULTS

Families in Turkey have been waiting for good news from their loved ones for years. Every day, mothers, fathers, children and spouses wait by the phone with hope, waiting for help from the authorities.

However, the fact that no concrete steps have been taken so far increases the despair of the families even more. In this process, some family members are left alone with the pain of losing their loved ones.

The Turkish government and diplomatic representatives made various attempts to release these women.

However, the negotiations and diplomatic efforts with the Iraqi government have unfortunately not yielded any positive results yet.

International human rights organizations have also tried to draw attention to the situation by preparing various reports on this issue, but these efforts have been insufficient so far.
