US State Department Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel answered the AA correspondent's question.
"Today, the Turkish Foreign Minister said that the two PKK/YPG terrorists who attempted a terrorist attack in Ankara on Sunday came from Syria. He also said that PKK/YPG terrorist organization facilities in Iraq and Syria are Turkey's legitimate targets. Do you have an answer about this?" asked the correspondent.
Patel, in his answer on the subject, used following words:
"The USA resolutely stands by our NATO ally Turkey and the Turkish people in their fight against the PKK, which is defined as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) by the USA."
PATEL DENIES THE PKK-YPG CONNECTION
On the other hand, Patel refrained from commenting on his connection with the YPG, the Syrian branch of the PKK terrorist organization.
"We do not have sufficient information to confirm the accuracy of these detailed claims. We have nothing to offer here," Patel said.
When asked whether the threats posed by PKK and YPG to Turkey and the USA are separate situations, Patel refrained from answering:
"This is the situation. I'm not here to change longstanding US policy," Patel added.
"We are aware of the security threat that PKK poses to Türkiye", Patel said.
When asked whether YPG poses a threat to Turkey, Patel said, "I have no security assessment to offer on this topic."
