Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Prime Minister Ersin Tatar made evaluations about the 1974 Cyprus Peace Operation and the developments that followed.

Noting that the Turkish Cypriots lived before the 1974 in the island scattered and could not see their future, Tatar pointed out that the existence of the Turkish Cypriots on the island was destroyed by genocide and similar moves. Tatar said that establishing a state at a strategic point in the Eastern Mediterranean and reaching this stage is not an easy task and they owe them to the Peace Operation in 1974.

Prime Minister Tatar said, “Fortunately there was an operation in 1974, fortunately Mehmetçik was able to set foot here. Since then, the Turkish Cypriot people continue to live in dignity under the roof of their state.”

Pointing out that the oil, gas and other strategic issues in the Eastern Mediterranean were not so obvious during the 1974 Cyprus Peace Operation, Tatar noted that the importance of the Eastern Mediterranean was understood better after 46 years.

Tatar reminded that the negotiation process was carried out for many years for the solution of the Cyprus issue and said:

"It turned out that the Greek-Greek duo did not settle for an equality deal in Cyprus. Cyprus to take their own territory, to gradually reduce the effectiveness of both the Turkish Cypriots in the EU as well as Turkey to put a country where the 3rd, and are intended to exclude the main target here. It is the protection of our rights on the island on the basis of equality we always wish."
