Making a statement after the December inflation figures were announced, Confederation of Civil Servants' Unions (Memur-Sen)  Chairman Ali Yalçın emphasized the gap between public employees and retirees.

"While the lowest public servant salary will be 30 thousand 910 TL, the lowest public servant pension will be 14 thousand 700 TL. The ratio between the lowest public servant pension and the lowest public servant salary was 47.5 percent. This huge difference between duty salary and pension should be closed, first of all, the additional payment of 8 thousand 77 TL should be reflected to retired public servants, the justified expectations of retired public servants should be seen and their voices should be heard," Yalçın said.

Stating that the increase in the minimum wage will be given in February and the increase in public servants will be given on January 15, Yalçın drew attention to the increases.

"Unfortunately, it has been seen once again that the market managers' approach of 'Let's suppress inflation in December and reflect the price increases in January', who tried to keep inflation low by suppressing prices in December, prevailed. Since New Year's Eve, we have witnessed the race of capital managers to change labels as a result of the competition to 'increase revenues before expenses increase'. While the revenues increase every 6 months, the capitalists will instantly reflect the expenses on the products for the next 6 months; Equity should control the scales of conscience as well as the balance of supply and demand," Yalçın added.

“THE UNDERSTANDING THAT WE ARE PREVENTING LOSSES THROUGH THE INFLATION DIFFERENCE MUST END”

Stating that the regulations decided in the 7th Term Collective Agreement in the new year should be made as soon as possible, Yalçın said that he hoped to achieve single-digit inflation figures in 2024.

"We recorded with the Meeting Minutes in the 7th Term Collective Agreement; In accordance with the 3600 Additional Indicator regulation for the 1st Degree, the work awaited by our public servants and retirees should be carried out and implemented by the authorized Confederation Officer-Sen without wasting time. By harmonizing the Public Servants' Unions and Collective Agreement Law No. 4688 with universal principles, union freedoms should increase, obstacles to union organization should be removed and regulations restricting authority should become a thing of the past. Our expectation in 2024 is that inflation expectations and forecasts will deviate significantly 'positively' and single-digit inflation figures will be achieved. Public officers; The spiral of 'high inflation - falling purchasing power' must be rescued, and the mentality of preventing losses through 'inflation difference' must come to an end," Yalçın stated.
