Secretary General Ziad al-Nakhala held a press conference in Tehran, the capital of Iran, on the attacks launched by Israel on the Gaza Strip on August 5 and the ceasefire reached yesterday between Israel and the Islamic Jihad movement, mediated by Egypt.
Nakhala stated that Israel did not achieve its purpose in the attacks on Gaza and said, "If Israel had achieved any of its goals, it would not have tried to reach an agreement with the Islamic Jihad movement. Israel, through the United Nations and Egypt, used all its power to achieve a ceasefire. Communication with Gaza has never stopped 24 hours a day to ensure this agreement is reached here with us and through diplomats."
Noting that from the first moment, they stipulated the release of Bassam al-Saadi, one of the leaders of the Islamic Jihad movement, and Khalil al-Awawide, who was on hunger strike, and said that Israel tried to act slowly in accepting this demand, but eventually accepted it.
Stating that Awawide, who is on hunger strike, will go directly to the hospital today and then go home, Nakhala stated that they have received a clear written promise that Egypt will follow the release of Saadi as soon as possible.
"If Israel does not fulfill our agreed terms, we will ignore the ceasefire agreement and resume the war without a moment's hesitation," Nakhala added.
