In the report, it was noted that energy services such as health and education should be provided to the citizens by the public. The report also included a proposal to close Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) and replace it with the Turkish Planning Institution (TPK).

Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects (TMMOB) and its affiliated chambers prepared a joint report on the hikes in natural gas and electricity. In the report, which mentioned that natural gas and electricity services should be carried out by the public, there was a call to take back the hikes. It was said that the low tariff for residences should be increased to 240 kWh.

“THE COST OF LIVING WILL INCREASE EXPONENTİALLY”

In the report, which mentions the exorbitant hikes in electricity and natural gas sales prices with the new year, “Tens of thousands of small business owners who will experience the same problems will be added to the millions of residential subscribers whose electricity and gas have been cut off because they could not pay their bills due to the extraordinary hikes in energy input prices in the last year. Industry where natural gas is an industrial input in their production facilities will reflect the price increase of 345 percent to their costs and product sales prices. All these will increase the price increases in general and increase the cost of living exponentially,” the report said.

"EMRA SHOULD BE CLOSED, TPK SHOULD BE ESTABLISHED"

Emphasizing the need for a new structuring and new institutions in the energy sector, “The EMRA, which sees it as protecting the rights and interests of energy companies, not citizens, should be closed. Growing for the benefit of society, employment, fair distribution, eliminating inequalities in income distribution between regions and society, developing an industry based on basic sciences and high-tech production; given education, health, energy, transportation, housing, etc. by public The Turkish Planning Institution (TPK) should be established to plan the delivery of public services, that is, social development,” the report added.

“GET BACK THE HIKES”

Where the hikes in the bills is unacceptable and calls for their withdrawal are made. Other demands in the report were listed as follows:

“The low tariff limit for houses in electricity should be increased to 230 kWh per month.

150 kWh electricity aid application should be transparent and its criteria should be shared with the public.

The limit of electricity assistance to poor families should also be increased to 230 kWh per month.

Value Added Tax (VAT) rate on electricity, natural gas and water should be reduced to 1 percent in residences.

The fundamental solution is to provide public services by the public.”
