Halil İbrahim Balcı, President of the Turkish Bakers Federation, made a written statement regarding the news that bread prices would rise.
Stating that 200-210 grams of bread are sold for 3 Turkish Liras (TL) throughout the country, Balcı said, “The news that bread is sold for 4 TL and 5 TL in some of our media organs does not reflect the truth. There is no such thing as 4 TL or 5 TL."
UNLICENSED OVENS SHOULD NOT PRODUCE
Balcı stated that as bakers, they made the necessary sacrifice to ensure that the price of bread, which is 12,5 TL per kilogram across the country, should not exceed 14-15 TL on a kilogram basis, taking into account the cost increases in January. “Here, I would like to bring the following point to your attention. Unlicensed bakeries under the stairs should not produce for another day. We invite our municipalities to take part in this context," he added.
