Arslan noted that the privatization of water is a threat to our future. Pointing out that the importance of water for societies has been understood more in recent years, Arslan stated that awareness on the subject should be increased in our country, which is experiencing water stress.
Arslan said, “Our country is heading towards water poverty. If this process continues like this, Turkey will be a water-poor country in the 2030s. A water-poor country means facing serious difficulties in terms of water. The current picture of both our world and our country on water is not in a way that gives us hope. For this, using our existing water resources with maximum efficiency and not wasting water can make our work easier in this process. ‘Hak-İş’ Trade Union Confederation fulfills its responsibilities in water, as it does in every field. As the Confederation, we want to raise awareness about water.”
“WATER CANNOT BE COMMERCIAL”
Stating that they are against the privatization and commercialization of water and that this is a threat against the future of humanity, “Water is the common value of all humanity. We need to underline that this valuable product, which has no alternative and cannot be produced, belongs to all humanity. We are extremely worried about the approaches of some international institutions such as the World Bank, the European Investment Bank and the International Monetary Fund towards the privatization and commercialization of water,” Arslan added.
