While the students who won a university try to solve the problem of accommodation in the universities they have won, the accommodation problem of the students continues due to the insufficient state dormitories.

107,000 of the students who applied to Credit and Dormitories Institution (KYK) dormitories this term are hung out to dry… 
 
With universities opened in every city, the number of university students is increasing rapidly. Despite the increase in the number of students, the accommodation problem has been on the agenda recently. It has been confirmed in the answer given to the parliamentary question that the capacity of the state dormitories for university students is insufficient. It revealed that more than 107,000 students who applied to KYK dormitories could not get settled. 
 

APPLICATION 664K, SETTLEMENT 556K 

 
As part of the budget negotiations, the 2022 Central Budget meetings were held with the Planning and Budget Commission of the Ministry of Youth and Sports on November 23. During these meetings, the situation of KYK dormitories was asked to answer by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mehmet Kasapoğlu. Minister Kasapoğlu responded to the parliamentary question. In the 2021-2022 academic year, 556,161 of the 664,051 students who applied for accommodation in the dormitories were sent to the dormitories. It turned out that 107,890 of the students who applied could not settle in the dormitories and thus remained in the open. 
 

168K STUDENTS CANNOT HAVE A LOAN 

 
Minister Kasapoğlu, who asked a parliamentary question to answer regarding the loan applications in the questionnaire, stated that there were 777,718 students who applied for the loan in the 2021-2022 period, while 609,370 of the students who applied for the loan were allocated. Accordingly, it was stated that the number of students who applied for loans but were not allocated was 168,348. 
 

ANKARA HAS 30,797 BED CAPACITY AND ISTANBUL 28,805 BED CAPACITY 

 
In the response given by the Minister, it was stated that dormitory investments continue and 230 new dormitory buildings with a bed capacity of 221,134 were put into service between 2018 and 2021. It was announced that the current bed capacity in Ankara is 30,797 when the bed capacity in Istanbul is 28,805. It was stated that the construction of the dormitories with high capacity of 6,403 beds in Ankara, 15,267 beds in Istanbul is continuing.
