The last changes in the education system affected the publishing houses as well as the students and their families. Kenan Kocatürk, Head of Publishers Union of Turkey, said, "About 30 million TEOGs of the books produced last year and this year about the exams, 70 million YGS and LYS books. With these removed, publishers close to 100 million now do not know what to do. We are importing the paper we use in the book. Only about 100 million dollars worth of paper is imported. We are facing a serious figure with its content and other costs. I'm talking about a $ 580 million loss of turnover. In other words, the sector is expected to lose 2 billion pounds turnover" he said.
Kocatürk said that there are 200 educational publishers operating in this area, "The share of education publications in the sector is 52 percent. It is not a figure to be underestimated at all. They produce around 240 million books a year. Unfortunately, we have lost 100 million of the books they produce now because of this examination. According to the Ministry of National Education's newly announced examination regulation, some of the children will enter this test again and need this information again. I think some of the books are still sellable. Some of our publisher friends are changing the covers. How true or wrong it is. Unfortunately, the books will go back if they can not be used."
"PRESSED DOCUMENT CHANGE WILL BE VERY DIFFICULT"
MEF University Faculty of Education Dean Prof. Dr. Mustafa Ozcan, "the printed material will be very difficult to change. Sorry for the bookstores. I do not want to spend time with books that are unlikely to be questionable, or that are an inferior book with very few questions. Because I want to concentrate on what is the last decision. Now, what would you like to do with the exam that the ministry has made in transit from middle school to high school? I want it to be designed for you in the book you sold to me. The rest do not motivate me, my motivation kills" he said.
"SALES LOWERED BY 70 PERCENT"
"We can not do anything right now," said Hakan Budak, Marketing Manager at Palme Publishing. Books will be discarded. Books that change cover do not have the same demand from students. When the students learn that the cover of the book has changed, they want something new. Sales of TEOG, LYS and YGS books have declined by about 70 percent. If the authorities had made a statement in time, everyone would suffer less. Now the damage is really big" he said.
