The Justice and Development Party (AKP) and the Good (IYI) Party held weekly group meetings in the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM). AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, at the group meeting of his party, responded harshly to the criticisms of the opposition parties against him and his party.
IYI Party Chairwoman Meral Akşener criticized the government over the economy. Responding to the opposition's snap elections, Erdogan said, "It has been saying snap elections for months. Mr. Devlet from the People's Alliance (Cumhur İttifakı) says this will happen in June 2023, and so do I. There are no snap elections. This country is a state of law, elections will be held on whatever date is specified. Mr. Kemal I put a dot, not a semicolon."
“WE WILL ACT ACCORDING TO THE RULES OF THE FREE MARKET”
Referring to the new economic measures covering currency-protected time Turkish Liras (TL) deposits, “We announced yesterday in order to bring the exchange rate to a predictable and sustainable level in line with the realities of our country, within the rules of free market economy. The program has achieved its goal. Our nation has adopted these measures and our determined stance, and the markets have taken appropriate steps. Related institutions, especially our Ministry of Treasury, started to share details. We do not do business against the rules of the free market, we are trying to ensure that the free market operates by its own rules by ensuring that malicious speculators get their hands off our country,” Erdoğan added.
AKŞENER: “POWER COMES WITH 1973 SOLUTIONS”
IYI Party Chairwoman Meral Akşener, making statements on the new economic measures covering currency-protected time deposits, “Our great economist, who does not keep any calculations of him, has finally brought the concept of convertible deposits into dollars in our lives 50 years later, with a smart move. Great Turkey, great power, the target is 1973! The 2023 targets are gone, replaced by 1973 solutions. The palace media is trying to push this desperation as economic success. He toured by saying there is Islamic teaching (Nas), inserted a brand new type interest in our lives on Monday evening. He announced that they would pay the exchange rate difference as the state to those who returned to TL deposits. He went and tied the TL to the dollar, he said, I have no dignity, I hold America as a guarantor for myself. Are you cheating a child? If you were to pay the exchange rate difference, the hidden interest; why did you play with interest rates so much and play into the hands of currency lobbies?” she asked.
