At least 25 Palestinians were injured Thursday, including some suffocated by tear gas, in clashes between dozens of Palestinian youths and the Israeli army on the borders between Gaza and Israel.

“At least 25 Palestinians were injured during clashes with Israeli forces in Gaza,” said Asharaf al-Qudra, a spokesman for Gaza’s Health Ministry.

The wounded included five injured by live bullets while 20 suffocated after inhaling tear gas, he added.

The gunshot victims were transferred to Gaza hospitals where doctors described their wounds as "moderate," while the suffocation cases were treated on the ground by paramedics.

Clashes broke out Thursday between hundreds of Palestinian youths and the Israeli army over last week’s U.S. recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

The clashes broke out in four locations along the eastern Gaza border -- Al-Qrara eastern Khan Yunis (south), Nahal Oz eastern al-Shojaeya (east), eastern Bureij (central), and the eastern Jabalia refugee camp (north) -- during which the Israeli army used live ammunition, rubber-coated metal bullets, and tear gas, while Palestinian youths threw stones and Molotov cocktails at soldiers.

Since last Friday, at least two protesters have been martyred and hundreds more injured in clashes between Palestinians and Israeli forces.
