2.8 million people migrated between cities in Turkey

It was determined that 2 million 791 thousand 156 people migrated between provinces in Turkey last year. Istanbul was both the city that received the most immigration and the province that gave the most immigration. While 385 thousand people migrated to Istanbul, the number of those who migrated from the city was 418 thousand.

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) has published the "Internal Migration Statistics" bulletin for the year 2022.
 
Accordingly, the rate of the inter-provincial immigrant population, which was 3.18 percent in the 2007-2008 period, became 3.27 percent in 2022, following a fluctuating course over the years.
 
In this context, 2 million 791 thousand 156 people migrated between provinces in Turkey last year. 47.9 percent of this population was men, and 52.1% were women.
 
In the distribution of the population migrating between provinces in Turkey, Istanbul was identified as the province that received the most immigration with 385 thousand 294 people.
 
Ankara was followed by Ankara with 189 thousand 104 people and İzmir with 132 thousand 426 people, respectively.
 
The provinces receiving the least immigration were Ardahan with 5 thousand 391 people, Bayburt with 7 thousand 31 people and Kilis with 8 thousand 8 people, respectively.
 
It was seen that Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir, which are the provinces that receive the most immigration, are also the provinces that send the most immigrants.
 
While Istanbul was the province with the highest number of immigrants with 418 thousand 82 persons, Ankara with 161 thousand 912 persons and İzmir with 107 thousand 312 persons followed this province in the first place.
 
The provinces with the least immigrants were Tunceli with 7 thousand 578 people, Kilis with 7 thousand 629 people and Ardahan with 8 thousand 157 people, respectively.
 

LAST YEAR HIGHEST MIGRATION MOBILITY IS IN 20-24 AGE GROUP

 
In Turkey, the highest migration mobility last year was in the 20-24 age group with 643 thousand 998 people. Among the immigrants in the mentioned age group, 42.5 percent were men and 57.5 percent were women.
 
Last year, 591,790 of the inter-provincial migrants migrated dependent on one of the household members.
 
When the other reasons for migration were examined, it was seen that 526 thousand 8 people migrated due to education and 479 thousand 250 people because of better housing and living conditions.
 
The reason for the migration of the 20-24 age group, which is the age group with the highest migration mobility in Turkey in 2022, was education.
 
It was determined that 257 thousand 676 of the immigrants in the mentioned age group migrated due to education, 91 thousand 612 due to starting a job, finding a job and 50 thousand 338 due to better housing and living conditions.
