Tax Inspectors Association President Ahmet Halis Başli and members of the board of directors met with members of the press for breakfast. After breakfast, Başli gave information about tax audits and personal rights of tax inspectors and answered the questions of the press. Noting that a tax base difference of 310 billion Turkish Liras (TL) was determined in 230,983 taxpayers examined by tax inspectors in the last 5 years, Başli noted that while a tax assessment of 74,1 billion TL was requested, a tax penalty of 148,9 billion TL was proposed.
LAST YEAR, A DIFFERENCE OF 66 BILLION TL WAS DETERMINED
Reminding that the tax inspection units were united under the umbrella of the Tax Inspection Board with the reform made in 2011, Başli stated that the multi-headedness in the inspection was thus eliminated. Referring to the results of the recent inspections by tax inspectors, President Başli said that 54,065 taxpayers were examined in 2021, there was a tax base difference of 66,2 billion TL, in this context, with a tax assessment of 24,2 billion TL. He said that a tax penalty of 50,8 billion TL was proposed. Noting that in the last 5 years, 230,983 taxpayers had a tax base difference of 310 billion TL, Başli noted that while a tax assessment of 74,1 billion TL was requested for them, a tax penalty of 148,9 billion TL was proposed.
INVESTIGATORS ARE MOVING AWAY FROM THE PUBLIC
Underlining that the inspectors also take part in the teams established for new sectors such as crypto money, digital publishing and social media that emerged with the digital transformation, Başli noted that the inspectors and other tax inspection units, who carry out such important works, fell behind in many personal rights areas, including salary. Stating that the wages of tax inspectors are far below the wages of officials in other institutions doing similar work, Başli said, “While the first class tax inspector receives 21,000 TL, 35,000 TL in the Court of Accounts and 42,000 TL in justice inspectors.” Mentioning that, this inequality causes tax inspectors to distance themselves from the public, Başli stated that many inspectors moved to the private sector with 3 times more wage.
