Noting that 20 thousand teacher appointments were insufficient in March, Eğitim-Bir-Sen General Secretary Latif Selvi, "The erroneous approach in teacher appointment policy, contractual and paid teaching practice should be abandoned as soon as possible; the shortage of teachers should be closed on the basis of permanent employment. The Ministry of National Education should aim to end the teacher shortage and appoint at least 40 thousand more teachers," he said.
Eğitim-Bir-Sen General Secretary Latif Selvi, who also supported the action taken by the teacher candidates waiting for appointment in Ankara with the demand for the appointment of additional teachers, made statements about the teacher appointments.
Noting that 20 thousand appointments as a union in March were insufficient, Selvi said, "Based on the teacher / student ratio and class size average in OECD countries, Turkey currently needs 140 thousand teacher appointments and it is not possible to close the teacher gap with the number of appointments not exceeding 20 thousand. Not being able to close the teacher shortage, on the one hand, leads to the inability to benefit from teacher candidates who have the competence and merit to be teachers, and to struggle with unemployment problems for these teacher candidates, on the other hand, it causes the existence of working types such as salaried teaching, which is indistinguishable from cheap labor".
