The 440-year-old Ayakapı Bath, which is almost the cornerstone of the region in the Historical Peninsula of Istanbul, has been put up for sale on the real estate site. The bath, which is one of the works of Mimar Sinan in Istanbul, has been used for works such as repair shops and warehouses in recent years. This time, a price of 33 million Turkish Liras (TL) is requested for the bath, which was put up for sale several times before.
“RELATED INSTITUTIONS MUST ACT”
Providing information about the history of the bath, Bath Restoration Specialist Abu Balta said, “One of the works of Mimar Sinan, the 440-year-old Ayakapı Bath was built in 1582 by Nur Banu Sultan, the mother of Murat III. In recent years, it has been used for different purposes such as a repairman, a warehouse, as well as a bath. Currently, the interior of the historical building is on the verge of decay.” Balta, who stated that the historical building was transferred to private property, drew attention to the fact that the bath should not be used for different purposes. Balta added, “Such structures should be properly restored and brought into tourism. Relevant institutions, especially the Ministry of Tourism and Culture and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) should take action.”

In the sales announcement of the bath, “It is in the historical peninsula of Istanbul, in the direction of Unkapanı road from Balat, on Abdülezel Paşa Avenue, with a 45-meter frontage to the main road, and it is one of the rare large parcels in the region. Right next to the Fener-Balat Renovation Project area, it is one of the cornerstone structures of the region. Historical Ayakapı Bath, a unique structure that can be used for tourism, social and cultural, eating and drinking and similar activities, is for sale,” the announcement said.
