Four PKK terrorists have been killed in northern Iraq, the Turkish military said Friday.
According to a statement issued by the Turkish General Staff, an air operation was launched Thursday in Zap and Avasin-Basyan areas.
The terrorists were preparing to carry out attacks on Turkish security checkpoints and military bases along the border with Iraq, the statement said.
The operation also destroyed the group's shelters and weapon emplacements.
The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU -- resumed its armed campaign against Turkey in July 2015.
Since then, it has been responsible for the deaths of some 1,200 Turkish security personnel and civilians, including a number of women and children.
