At a press conference held at Uskudar University, details of Hostility Analysis were shared with members of the press.
Speaking at the opening of the meeting, the Rector of Uskudar University, psychiatrist Prof. Nevzat Tarhan and Vice-Chancellor of Uskudar University, Director of the Center for Violence and Crime Enforcement and Research [ŞIDAM] Prof. Sevil Atasoy assessed the violence.
Prof. Tarhan stated that they have carried out many important studies to prevent the crime of family and violence, adding, "We are ready to support public institutions with our experience and knowledge on this issue."
Prof. Tarhan, in this context, signed the 'Social and Scientific Cooperation Protocol' with the Istanbul Police Department, the protocol covers cooperation with the Police Department in the fields of education, scientific research, and development.
Prof. Nevzat Tarhan stated that it is not enough to expect everything from the state and that a number of studies will be carried out as a university including NGOs, adding that they have taken action to build a database.
Prof Tarhan warned mothers that many of the domestic violence cause of hidden depression.
Referring to the Istanbul Convention in his speech, Tarhan stated that the convention was implemented without enough discussion and that there were some shortcomings in the implementation, reminding that the concept of mediation in the family should not be abandoned.
"There are aspects of it that don't fit our culture because it comes out without being discussed enough. There is a clause in the convention to abolish and ban all attempts to reconcile the mediation system, which is one of the important actions aimed at achieving social reconciliation and justice.
In our culture, neighbors, relatives, and parents work as arbiters in domestic problems. It solves many problems. These are our pros," Tarhan said.
Warning that removing the family mediation system will cause a further increase in domestic violence incidents, Tarhan noted that the situation needs to be overhauled.
Prof Nevzat Tarhan emphasized that positive psychology education, which includes concepts such as stress management, coping with problems and anger management, should be given to adolescents especially in the prevention of violence.
With the participation of 25 thousand people in 2018, the University of Uskudar has mapped Turkey's addiction Risk Profile and Mental Health with a study carried out by its graduate students.
The hostility (anger-hostility-aggression) analysis in the scope of the study contains striking data.
