Joe Biden took his first de facto anti-Turkey step in less than a month under the US presidency.
The United States, which is against Turkey and the TRNC in the struggle for energy sharing and sovereignty in the Eastern Mediterranean, applied for membership to the "Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum".
The USA has been invited by the forum members to become a "permanent observer" in the project that excludes Turkey in the Eastern Mediterranean equation.
According to the statement made by the Greek Environment and Energy Minister Kostis Hatzidakis, the USA requested participation in the Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum as of January 13, 2021. While it is known that Joe Biden has a pro-Greek stance, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken also made a statement that made the opponents of Turkey happy.
"THE USA WANTS TO BE A DECISION-MAKER BY PLACING IN THE BALANCES"
Esenyurt University Lecturer Prof. Dr. Sait Yılmaz evaluated the application of the USA to participate in the Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum to Milli Gazete.
Regarding the issue, Yılmaz said that the US is trying to take the initiative in the region and aims to create the balances in the region in its favor.
"Last sample to keep Turkey out of the strategy for the energy equation"
Regarding the USA's application to participate in the East Mediterranean Gas Forum, Ankara Center for Crisis and Political Studies (ANKASAM) Turkish Foreign Policy Advisor Dr. Emre Ozan, making statements to our newspaper, he evaluated with the expressions "The official application of the USA to participate in the Forum was the last example of the strategy to keep Turkey out of the energy equation".
A FORMATION AGAINST TURKEY: EASTERN MEDITERRANEAN GAS FORUM
The purpose of the formation, which was established in Cairo, the capital of Egypt in 2019, is explained as follows:
"Ensuring coordination between the member countries for optimal use of the Eastern Mediterranean natural gas reserves and existing resources and establishing a regional gas market to serve the purposes of the member countries."
On the other hand, in the reports centered on the occupying Israeli regime, it was stated that the forum was an anti-Turkey formation. Syria and Lebanon, as well as Turkey, were excluded from the Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum.
BIDEN MANAGEMENT HAS NOT TAKEN A STEP BACK
It was noteworthy that the USA, invited by the Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum members to be "permanent observer", applied for membership to the Eastern Mediterranean Forum, which was formed as a result of Turkey's request to be excluded from the equation in the Eastern Mediterranean. Although the step in question was taken in the last days of Trump's presidency, the Biden administration continued the aforementioned decision. It seemed likely that Joe Biden's anti-Turkey steps would be taken. With the latest development in the Eastern Mediterranean equation, the first anti-Turkey step during Biden's presidency was thus taken.
