Concerned that this situation may lead to mass dismissals in working life, the unions demanded the continuation of the short-time working allowance with the ban on dismissal.

The short-time working allowance, unpaid leave and dismissal ban measures, which were put into practice in April of last year to alleviate the impact of the pandemic on production, expire on June 30, that is, as of today.

Unions, who want the measures to be extended, are worried that there will be mass layoffs otherwise. Although the government entered the normalization process in the pandemic, the unions stated that the employees still face difficult living conditions, "It was the narrow and fixed-income workers who felt the negative impact of the pandemic on the economy the most. There were huge losses in income and employment. This effect of the pandemic on employees did not decrease. While this is the current situation, more comprehensive social policies should be implemented instead of putting an end to the measures," it was stated.

Pointing out that the ban on dismissal applied so far has been violated many times by the employer in practice, the unions stated that the employer either put the workers in front of the door with Code-29 or condemned the worker to live on 40-50 liras per day with the unilateral unpaid leave application. In order to protect employment and the income of the worker, the ban on dismissal should continue without any restrictions. The application of free leave should be terminated. The amount of short-time working allowance should be increased to the minimum wage level.

EMPLOYERS WANT SHORT WORK TO BE EXTENDED

On the other hand, the employer demanded that only the short-time working allowance be continued. Expressing that the business world is also in great trouble in the Covid-19 pandemic, the employer side requested that the allowance be extended until the economic and social conditions are fully improved or at least until the end of the year.
