The law proposal to increase the minimum salary of civil servants to 22 thousand TL was submitted to the Turkish Grand National Assembly.

In addition to the increase, including the inflation difference, an increase of 8 thousand 77 TL was envisaged, and the proposal to increase the salaries of basic civil servants to 22 thousand 17 liras was included in the proposal.

Making statements regarding the proposal, Tuncay Cengiz, Chairman of the Defense, Bureau and Support Services (SAVDES-SEN), reminded that an increase of 17.55 percent, including the inflation difference, and an additional increase of 8 thousand 77 TL are foreseen.

"With the proposal, it was announced that the lowest civil servant wage, which was stated to be 11 thousand 848 TL, was increased to 22 thousand 17 TL. However, the issue of whether the additional payment of 8 thousand 77 TL will be reflected on retirement remains unclear, since the relevant article will enter into force on 15 July 2023, it will not be included in the 15-day difference," Cengiz said.

THE INCREASE DID NOT SATISFIED CIVIL SERVANTS

"According to Türk-İş data, the poverty line for a family of four in June 2023 was announced as 33 thousand 789 TL. If the proposal becomes law, 70-80 percent of civil servants will remain below the poverty line of 33 thousand 789 TL. The increases envisaged due to the recent depreciation of TL, the cost of living due to the increase in production costs and the loss of purchasing power did not create satisfaction and were not found acceptable by us," Cengiz added.

"SALARIES SHOULD BE RISED TO THE POVERTY LIMIT"

Expressing that the baggage law should be expanded further, Cengiz called for a solution to the injustices that occurred in the public.

Cengiz stated that the lowest civil servant salaries should approach the poverty line.

"In order to raise the lowest salary of civil servants to the poverty line, it is also necessary to pay separately the 'lodging compensation' given to all civil servants with the Decree No. 375 between 1994-2005 in three groups as 8 thousand 500 TL, 8 thousand TL and 7 thousand 500 TL. addition is required. In addition, the additional payment of 8 thousand 77 TL should be reflected on retirement, and hesitation on this issue should be eliminated. It is not possible to accept any increase that is not reflected in retirement," Cengiz stated.
