The ruling party, which hastily passed the Paris Climate Agreement to the Turkish Grand National Assembly due to the funds to be given, forgets its actions against nature and makes "environmentalist" statements.

The ruling party, which donated the forests to the capital owners, took on an almost environmentally friendly identity after ratifying the Paris Climate Agreement in the parliament. Climate statements from the highest level brought to mind the price paid for the anti-nature steps taken in the past. While cutting trees and filling the stream beds with houses are the basis of the flood events in the Black Sea Region this summer, it is also a matter of curiosity what steps will be taken to improve the climate in Turkey.

Evaluating President Erdogan's recent climate statements, Energy and Climate Specialist Önder Algedik said, "President Erdogan talks about controversial things. Concretely, deforestation, mining are carried out and mountains are drilled for construction in Turkey. Today, rapid steps are being taken to change the climate. We became a party to the Climate Change Framework Convention in 2004. After that, the royalty system was brought forward to extract more coal. Many companies got into the buy-guaranteed coal business. This caused us to experience the Soma disaster."

“WE NEED TO CHANGE POLICIES”

Algedik stated that the policies should change, "After passing the Paris Climate Agreement, it passed 2 nuclear agreements. We need to change our government policies. We need to create policies that will prevent tree cutting and not pour concrete asphalt. We will experience the sad events that we experienced this summer more next summer and we need to do what needs to be done so that the future does not get worse," he added.

“RECORD AMOUNT OF TREES HAVE BEEN CUT IN 2018”

Energy and Climate Specialist Önder Algedik, "Disasters such as floods and fires this summer are caused by politics rather than climate change. Because, as in previous years, there were floods and overflows this year as well. Normally, there are several floods in that area in 10 years. There had been almost no mortal floods until this time. There have been many deaths this year. The reason for this is the record increase in the amount of logging in 2018. According to the President's decision, the amount of tree cutting was increased from 15 million to 25 million cubic meters. Trees are being cut all over the country right now. Our forests are burning and the painful events we have experienced are obvious," he said.
