The 154th issue of the Turkish Economic Policy Research Foundation (TEPAV) Retail Confidence Index (TEPE) has been published.
Accordingly, TEPE gained 6.8 points in October 2022, with an increase of 11.9 points compared to the previous month and 15.9 points compared to the same period of the previous year.
While the rate of retailers participating in the TEPE survey who stated that their business situation improved in the last 3 months increased to 39.6 percent in October 2022, the rate of those expecting an improvement in their business in the next 3 months remained at the level of 11.2 percent.
The ratio of retailers expecting an increase in sales prices in the next 3 months rose to 94.5%.
The sector of “groceries, markets and department stores selling more than one type of product” was the sector with the highest increase in retail confidence in October.
When analyzed on a regional basis, the highest increase in retail confidence in October was seen in the Middle East Anatolia Region.
RATE OF EXPECTING IMPROVEMENTS IN JOBS 11.2
In October 2022, 11.2 percent of TEPE survey participants stated that they expected an improvement in their business in the next 3 months, while 7.9 percent expected a worsening in their business. The rate of those who did not expect a change in their jobs was 81 percent. Expectations for improvement were mostly justified by the seasonal shift and increased demand situation.
MORE STOCK NEGATIVELY AFFECTED
The 16.6-point change that the current stock level is above normal reflected negatively on the index. Retailers' sales expectations for the future have increased compared to last month and last year. The equilibrium value of sales expectations for the next 3 months was 6.7 points in October 2022. Accordingly, sales expectations for the next 3 months increased by 4.8 points compared to the previous month and by 26.8 points compared to the same month of the previous year.
RISING OF PEOPLE WHO SAY "THINGS HAVE GOT WORST"
Evaluations of the state of affairs deteriorated. Evaluations for the state of affairs (compared to the same period of the previous year) took the value of -51.2 points in October 2022, decreasing by 8.7 points compared to September 2022 and by 38.6 points compared to October 2021.
In October 2022, 9.1 percent of the TEPE survey participants stated that there was an increase in their business compared to the same period of the previous year, while the rate of those who stated that there was a decrease in their business was determined as 61.1 percent. The rate of those who stated that there was no change in their jobs compared to the previous year was 29.8 percent.
