According to TUIK data, inflation in the January-May period was 6.38 percent. Ali Yalçın, Chairman of labour union (Memur-Sen), stated that the 3 percent increase given to the civil servant for the first 6 months was dissolved in March.
The summary of this numerical table as an expression; Inflation continues to erode salaries, generate losses in income, and increase the amount allocated for expenses.
Memur-Sen Chairman Ali Yalçın stated that the civil servant crushed by inflation with the increase they received in the 5th term collective agreement.
"According to these rates, the salary increase of 3 percent for the first six months of public servants was 3.38 points behind the inflation rate. The summary of this numerical table as an expression; Inflation continues to melt salaries, produce losses in income, and increase the amounts allocated for expenses. The 3 percent increase in the salaries of public officials as of January 1 became obsolete and negative as of March. Public officials closed the month of April with a total loss of 2.45 percent against inflation. As of the end of May, the thousand TL of public servants on 1 January 2021 decreased to 939.81 TL. In July, the salaries and wages of public officials will increase by 3 percent and the inflation gap will increase by 3,38 percent," he said.
A FAIR RAISE SHOULD BE CONSIDERED URGENTLY
Reminding that the inflation expectation for 2021 is 13.81 percent in the Central Bank's May expectation survey, Yalçın underlined that the hike decision taken in the 5th term collective agreement is 2.3 percent.
"The requirements of the fact that the lowest civil servant faced a loss of 250.25 TL in his salary and 790.7 TL in his income in five months must be fully fulfilled. The constant increase, effective from January 1, 2021, should be implemented without delay, and the issue of additional hike should be urgently addressed, taking into account the inflation difference and the increase for the second six months as of July 1, as well as the year-end expectations of the Central Bank," he added.
