BASK Chairman Mehmet Alper Öğretici, on the other hand, underlined that the real purchasing power of civil servants has decreased, pointing out that the civil servants have difficulty in living on the salaries they receive.

"According to the research conducted by BASK, civil servant salaries continue to melt every month in the face of inflation," Öğretici said.

The government continues to paint rosy pictures as the election approaches.

Vedat Bilgin, Minister of Labor and Social Security, stated that public employees increased their purchasing power in a television program he attended and claimed that real incomes increased.

The Chairman of the Independent Public Employees' Unions Confederation (BASK), Mehmet Alper Öğretici, reacted to the Minister's statement and stated that the purchasing power of civil servants has decreased.

Speaking after Minister Bilgin's statements, BASK President Öğretici said that the average salary of civil servants is slightly above 12 thousand TL.

"A 4-year teacher is paid 12 thousand TL again. The purchasing power of public employees, who could not pay their rent and had difficulty in paying their bills, did not increase in real terms, but decreased. The increases given in each collective agreement were even below the inflation rate of TURKSTAT, which does not reflect the cost of living. Public employees are aware of their wages. The increase that will increase the unconditional purchasing power should be made immediately," Öğretici stated.

“CITIZENS PAY THE PRICE OF TURKSTAT CALCULATIONS”

Drawing attention to the inflation figures for March announced by TURKSTAT, Öğretici noted that CPI increased by 2.29 percent in March, while monthly inflation increased by 5.08 percent according to ENAG.

Öğretici pointed out that the amount of raise given to public employees for the first 6 months of the year melted in the first 3 months.

"Public employees will receive 4.6 percent inflation in the first 3 months. This announced rate is far from reflecting the real inflation, which the citizens personally experience and are desperate for. Unfortunately, civil servants, retirees and low-income citizens who have no income other than their salaries pay the price of official calculations being made according to the data of TURKSTAT and that the calculations of TURKSTAT do not match the facts in the field," Öğretici said.

“REGULATIONS MUST BE MADE AGAINST LOSSES”

Drawing attention to the results of the research conducted by BASK on the economic losses experienced by civil servants and retirees in the face of inflation, Öğretici stated that according to the announced inflation figure, most of the civil servants suffered losses.

"According to the research conducted by our BASK R&D unit, the summary of the meltdown in the salaries of civil servants in some titles is as follows: The loss of a 9 to 1 staff officer is 396.75 TL, a 7 to 1 degree and the loss of a teacher in the staff is 449,95TL. The loss of 3 degrees and a general practitioner is 648.86 TL, the loss of a nurse in the 12 to 3 degree staff is 435.30 TL, the loss of 11 to 1 degree and a technician in the staff is 416.01 TL, the loss of a 1 to 4 degree staff the loss of the engineer (office) is 689.21 TL. In the light of these data, necessary arrangements should be made to increase the purchasing power of civil servants and retirees," Öğretici added.
