Haluk Şensoy, Senior Agricultural Engineer from Ordu, shared the 2023 hazelnut cost analysis report he created by completing field studies on what the price of hazelnuts will be in the new season.
Şensoy, who has struggled for the hazelnut producers to get the wages they deserve by doing similar works in the past years, stated that the cost of 1 kilo of hazelnuts for 2023 is 86 liras and 83 kurus, and when the welfare share is added, the kilogram of the hazelnut should be purchased from the producer by the Turkish Grain Board for at least 121.5 liras.
“HAZELNUT, OUR BLEEDING WOUND”
Haluk Şensoy gave information about the analysis report he was working on.
"Hazelnut; it is a bleeding wound of our country, region and province. The country's economy is broken. Everyone agrees on this. The hazelnut producer has started to produce hazelnuts out of embarrassment against the day, so that the hazelnuts inherited from their ancestors do not remain in their garden, rather than to earn money. This is a very sad situation. As a result of long efforts, we have completed the 2023 hazelnut cost analysis. We determined this analysis in terms of cultivation cost, fertilization cost, plant protection product application, weed control, and harvest cost figures," Şensoy said.
Drawing attention to the troubled situation of hazelnut producers, Haluk Şensoy said, "Under the conditions of 2023, the production cost of 1 kilogram of hazelnut is 86 liras and 83 kurus, and 7216 liras per acre. When we add the welfare share, it should be able to sell a kilogram of hazelnut for 121.5 liras so that our producer can smile. Our producers of hazelnut farming are generally old and retired people, young people do not deal with this business much. The pensioner is already barely able to fill his stomach. How will he cover the cost of hazelnuts out of his own pocket? If the authorities want the continuation of hazelnut agriculture, which is a monopoly product of our country, which has 500 thousand producers and which feeds millions of people, they should pay the price we have stated to the producers."
