With the adoption of the Teaching Profession Law on February 3, many debates were opened.

Discussions continue with the application of the exam for expert teaching and head teacher in the law.

Hamdi Sürücü, Chairman of the Conscious Teachers Association (ÖĞ-DER), pointed out that the Teaching Profession Law should be prepared again and stated that the exam practice included in the law should also be cancelled.

“IT IS CLEAR THAT IT CANNOT BE A FAIR AND EQUIAL PRACTICE”

With the exam to be held on November 19 by the Ministry of National Education, teachers who have completed 10 years in the profession and received 70 points from the exam will be given the title of expert teacher, and those who have completed 20 years in the profession will be given the title of head teacher.

Pointing out that this exam-based system applied to teachers is not a correct practice, Sürücü said, "It is clear that a career practice that does not consider branch differences, does not evaluate work success, does not take into account merit, and is only tied to success in an exam will not be a fair and equitable practice."

“CAREER SHOULD BE DEFINED BY WORK, NOT EXAMS”

Underlining that it is not the right step to determine the career steps only with an exam, Sürücü stated that the process should be organized with trainings, not exams.

"Career should be earned not only by examination but also by study and education. The exam should be the gateway to the special education and studies of those who want to move up the career ladder. After the exam, the conditions and limits of which are determined, those who are successful should be given the opportunity to be promoted," Sürücü said.

“THE TEACHING PROFESSIONAL LAW SHOULD BE REVIEWED”

Stating that the Law on the Teaching Profession, which came into force in February 2022, should be regulated, "There are many issues in the law such as personal rights of teachers, teacher duties and responsibilities, assurance against violence, teacher training, appointments, relocations, administration and problems. In this law, there are no teachers working in the private sector, contracted teachers, paid teachers. There are no inspector selection and assignment criteria and no personal rights. There are no issues with paid teachers. The Teaching Profession Law should be rewritten. It should be a law that covers all the issues of teachers and teaching and produces solutions," Sürücü added.
