The Balkan Summit, hosted by "Memur-Sen" labour union, with the main title "The Future of Unionism in the Shadow of the Crisis"; Many presentations and discussions were held in the sessions organized under the themes of "Economic, Political Crises and the Future of Trade Unions", "Demographic Movements and the World of Labor" and "International Institutions for Solutions Against Crises", and the following conclusion was prepared.
In the declaration, "In the new period that started with the problems caused by the Covid-19 epidemic, one of the biggest crises in the history of humanity, and the Russia-Ukraine war, together with the world, the global labor movement is also faced with chaos and uncertainties. We, as the labor organizations that came together in Istanbul Labor Solidarity, think that there is a need for a determined cooperation and solidarity for the understanding and solution of current and future problems," it was stated.
“WE ARE SERIOUS CONCERNS FOR WORK”
"We are in serious concern that the problems faced by global labor will deepen after the two developments mentioned and will become an area of problem and struggle for the world labor movement in the coming period. A climate of high inflationary pressure and inequality in income distribution, which has not been seen in the whole world for many years; poses a serious threat to the fundamental rights, income and welfare of labor. Unfortunately, it is obvious that global labor organizations cannot produce adequate solutions in order to improve the rights of labor at the regional and global level. In order to ensure global justice, a common attitude and approach should be exhibited regarding the regional migration movements we experience in our geography and the problems they cause. In this period where global inequalities are getting deeper, we have to solve regional problems and move the solution processes to the global level in order for labor to reach the value it deserves," it was added.
“OUR COOPERATION WILL CONTINUE AFTER THAT”
"We seek a new era in which corporate union rights are valid on the basis of the labor market by ensuring social peace and tranquility for a fairer working life. We, the Balkan Unions, who came together in Istanbul Labor Solidarity, believe that we should work together on alternative cooperation and solidarity ways by joining our forces in order to talk about the aforementioned problems and to find new solutions. We decided to contribute to the solution of the labor problems of our region by getting stronger with new participations and to expand the Istanbul Labor Solidarity in an effective and efficient way in the coming period," the declaration said.
