Bayram Zengin, Chairman of the Independent Public Employees' Unions Confederation (BASK), pointed out that the figures of TUIK do not reflect the facts in the inflation figures that will be effective in the hike decisions in the 6th Term Collective Agreement that will start in August.
"According to the commissioned figures announced by TURKSTAT, which the public never found convincing, inflation increased by 1.94 percent in June. The inflation rate for the first 6 months of the year was announced as 8.45 percent. However, on the last day of June, the increase in electricity prices is 15 percent, natural gas is 12 percent, and the increase in bread price in Ankara is 17 percent. Even if bridge and highway tolls are left aside, there is not a single digit in the total price increases compared to the beginning of the year," he drew attention to the price hikes in the market.
“REVIEW OF JUDGMENT BOARD SHOULD BE REVISED”
With the announcement of the inflation figure, Zengin called for the decision to raise the salaries of civil servants and retirees to be revised.
"Even bespoke inflation figures indicate that the Arbitration Judgment should be revised. What do update-everything aficionados expect to update civil servants' collective agreements? It is clear that the government's inflation forecasts do not and will not. It is unacceptable that TURKSTAT makes it a duty to manipulate inflation rates in order to breathe life into the government during collective bargaining periods," he added.
