Hazelnut producers are anxiously awaiting the kilogram price that the Turkish Grain Board (TMO) will give to hazelnuts.

Hazelnut producers, who voiced the prices they deserve in many parts of the country, continue their actions.

The hazelnut producer, whose back is bent due to the bad economy and agricultural policies of the government, unfortunately succumbs to the increasing costs.

Agricultural Engineer Haluk Şensoy from Ordu, who publishes "Hazelnut Cost Analysis" every year, made remarkable statements to the Milli Gazete regarding the hazelnut production costs in 2022 and the expectations of hazelnut producers.

“DOLLAR INCREASED 100 PERCENT, FERTILIZER INCREASED 300 PERCENT”

Haluk Şensoy, Agricultural Engineer from Ordu, drew attention to the increase in fertilizer prices.

"Production costs increased this year as well as every year. While 26 life fertilizers were sold for 2 thousand TL last year, this year it increased to the level of 9,000 TL. The most used fertilizer in this region was sold for around 7,000 TL in the full season. ETF fertilizer, which is also known as yield fertilizer used in autumn and winter months, was 3 thousand liras a year ago, but this year it was sold in the band of 9,500 TL. So the dollar went up 100 percent, but fertilizer went up 300 percent. In other words, the producer could not enter his garden and fertilize the ground this year," he said.

"WE DON'T BELIEVE IN THE RAMBLING NUMBERS"

Stating that there is a decrease in hazelnut production compared to last year, Agricultural Engineer Haluk Şensoy said, "Ordu represents the general in hazelnut production. In general, I give approximate figures, one third of Turkey's hazelnut production and one fourth of the world's hazelnut production is made in Ordu. I also have to know the yield in order to make a cost analysis. I said that there will be 205 thousand tons of hazelnuts in Ordu for 2022. Now, if we multiply this by 3, I can say that I expect a yield of around 650 thousand tons throughout Turkey. We do not believe the fuzzy numbers they will give because they are perceptually playing with the market. I have less hazelnuts in my own garden than last year. It seems that there are more hazelnuts in the high villages compared to last year, but there are fewer hazelnuts in the middle and lower belts compared to last year. What are we going to do about it? You have to be a little conscientious."

“HAZELNUT IS THE PRODUCT THAT BRINGS THE MOST EXCHANGE”

Şensoy underlined that hazelnut is a national issue.

"Hazelnut is not just an issue that concerns Ordu and the Black Sea. It is the product that brings the most foreign exchange to the treasury in agricultural production. No one has a chance to say what to me. All costs should be considered and a price should be given. According to the 'Hazelnut Cost Analysis' we conducted for the city of Ordu in 2022, one kilo of hazelnuts cost our producer 46.86 TL. Of course, when we add the welfare share, the base price should be at least 65.60 TL. Currency protection system should be introduced for hazelnuts," he added.
