Especially the meltdown in civil servant salaries was revealed with the increase in the salaries of public workers.

Chairman of the Independent Public Servants Unions Confederation (BASK), Mehmet Alper Öğretici, pointed out that the loss of the civil servant is not new,

The meltdowns in civil servants' salaries started with the collective agreement arrangement. The meltdown brought the officer to this situation in 12 years.

With the exorbitant rise in inflation, the purchasing power of the citizens continues to decrease in all areas, while the situation of the citizens with limited and fixed income continues to be on the agenda frequently.

The low salaries of civil servants continue to draw attention after the regulation made in the salaries of public workers.

The Chairman of the Independent Public Employees' Unions Confederation (BASK), Mehmet Alper Öğretici, drew attention to the decline in the average salary of civil servants over the years, and underlined that the lowest salary of civil servants is at the border of hunger.

Reminding that the salaries of civil servants are increased with the collective agreement made every two years, Öğretici stated that this meltdown in civil servant salaries deepened even more with the increases made for two years.

"If we look at the collective agreements made in the last six periods, every increase that has been signed has remained below the inflation rate of TURKSTAT. Increases taken even below the TUIK inflation, which did not match the facts, crushed civil servants and retirees against real inflation, reduced their purchasing power, and TUIK inflation differences, which were taken in six-month periods, were also out of the pockets of civil servants and retirees until the difference was taken," Öğretici said.

“INCREASE IN COLLECTIVE AGREEMENTS WAS INSUFFICIENT AGAINST INFLATION”

Drawing attention to the collective agreements made in the past, Öğretici pointed out the situation of civil servants and retirees by comparing the last three collective agreements and TUIK inflation figures.

Öğretici stated that the incomes of civil servants and retirees decreased with the increases that remained below the inflation in the collective agreements made in the 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 periods.

He stated that there is a gap between the inflation figures and the increases, especially in the collective agreements signed for the periods of 2020, 2021 and 2022 and 2023.

“LOSS OF CIVIL SERVANTS AND RETIRED PEOPLE HAS CONTINUED FOR 12 YEARS”

Noting that it has been about 12 years since the collective bargaining system was introduced, Öğretici said that the other increases were different from the increases made for civil servants and retirees.

"Every minimum wage increase in the last 12 years is higher than the increase given to civil servants. For this reason, while the average civil servant salary was approximately 2.6 minimum wage 12 years ago, it is 1.4 minimum wage today. Since the improvements received by public workers were higher in this period, the wages of civil servants decreased compared to public workers, and the gap between them widened. This means that inflation has been crushed by the increases in civil servants and pensions in the last 12 years. The loss of the civil servant and his pensioner has been going on for 12 years," Öğretici added.
