DEVA Party leader Ali Babacan met with representatives of the written press in Ankara on the first anniversary of his party.

Evaluating the organization process, attacks on journalists, reform packages, the S-400 issue and the Central Bank's foreign exchange reserve discussions, Babacan said, "The way to fix the economy is through correcting the law."

"The government is having difficulty understanding that the solution to economic problems starts with the law. They think that the economy will improve when they change their minister and the head of the Central Bank and takes three or five decisions about the economy. No, they should never try in vain. If we are talking about long-term investment, the value that investors attach to legal security is very high. Increase the interest rate of the Central Bank, get hot money overnight and weekly, try to keep the rate under control with that money, it will not be resolved like this," Babacan added.

Answering the questions about the S-400 tension, one of the hot topics of the agenda, Babacan; "The S-400 issue is an issue under the sovereignty of Turkey. No country can tell Turkey to do this. But the government must calculate the consequences of its decision. There is a lack of calculation here. It is totally unaccounted that these systems cannot be used after 2 and a half billion dollars are paid, and serious sanctions are encountered when you open the cover slightly. If you are taking such a step, carry out diplomacy. While S-300 systems of NATO member Greece are deployed in Crete, it is not true that such a problem arises with Turkey. The root of this business is the US sanctions on Russia. Turkey faced this problem as a result of its internal legal regulations. There was no such arrangement when Greece deployed the S-300. The subject is extremely complex," he said.

THERE IS 58 BILLION DOLLAR DEBT

Babacan explained what he would respond to if he received an invitation from President Erdogan, with the following words:

"An aunt came in yesterday while drinking tea at a taxi stand. She said, "Oh Ali Babacan here?" she said, "He (Erdogan) might call you one day, don't you come back there!" This is the situation. System and mentality lie at the root of the problems. It is a weak possibility, but they can see the support of the citizen for the parliamentary system and say 'let's talk about the system'. The system must change, but the mentality governing the country must also change. The only way to achieve this is through a total change of power."
