6 days have passed in the invasion war launched by Russia against Ukraine. While the Russian and Ukrainian delegations, who sat at the negotiating table in Belarus the other day, could not come to a conclusion, they will sit at the table again today. Especially as the clashes and air strikes continued in the capital of Ukraine, Kiev, an ambitious statement came from Russia. “Sanctions will not affect us” came from the Kremlin. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Sıtkı Bilgin made important evaluations to the Milli Gazete.
Evaluating the Kremlin's statement "Sanctions will not affect Russia", Prof. Dr. Mustafa Sıtkı Bilgin said, “It is not a heartfelt statement to say that the sanction will not affect us. When we look at the examples in history, how did the collapse of the Soviet Union happen? The Soviet Union could not compete with the West economically and we witnessed the collapse of the Soviet Union. Let's take a look at the countries that have recently been embargoed, North Korea, Iran. The economies of these countries suffer from the embargo. In other words, Russia's statement is not scientific and historical data. This statement is to give a message, a propaganda that states that it is strong and will not be harmed.”
“THE THIRD PARTIES ARE THE WINNERS OF THIS WAR”
Stating that there is a fight for dominance in the region between North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), the United States of America (USA) and Russia, “Russia has its own reasons. NATO's settlement on Russia's border with strategic weapons and ballistic missiles, its encirclement, are the issues that Russia objected to in terms of life space doctrine. Russia underestimated Ukraine, it thought, ‘I will crush it in a few days.’ There were elements that it did not take into account because it trusted himself too much. Russia suffered in the city war and the resistance of the Ukrainian people. The West and NATO also support Ukraine. This was essentially a Euro-Russian economic war. This war is of no use to Ukraine or Russia. The winner of this war is the third parties,” Bilgin added.
“TURKEY IS CARRYING OUT A BALANCE POLICY”
Evaluating the war from Turkey's side, Bilgin said, "When viewed from Turkey's side, Turkey did not desire war and did its best to stop the war. Currently, it carries out a balance policy. As a NATO country, Turkey is the only country that has the best relations and communication with Russia. With this war, the importance of the Straits reappeared. All of these have increased Turkey's geopolitical importance."
