Saadet Party Deputy Chairman and Istanbul Deputy Mustafa Kaya made a written statement about the internal turmoil in Sudan.
Reminding that the clashes that started between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces in Sudan on April 15, 2023, are still continuing.
"According to UN data, nearly 1000 civilians lost their lives and 5 thousand people were injured due to the conflicts intensifying in the capital of Sudan, Khartoum and Darfur. It is reported that millions of people are deprived of basic food and other necessities in Sudan, where hundreds of thousands of people have had to leave the capital Khartoum and other conflict zones," Kaya said.
“EVEN SIMPLE TREATMENT CANNOT BE APPLIED TO PATIENTS”
Kaya pointed out that the number of dead and injured reported by the United Nations is higher.
"It is stated that 1 million people were besieged in Khartoum, and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces looted and forcibly expelled civilians from their homes. While the ongoing negotiations in Jeddah under the leadership of Saudi Arabia and the United States of America (USA) continue, it is seen that the parties do not comply with the announced ceasefire. There are allegations that the militia Rapid Support Forces fighting the Sudanese army received support from neighboring countries. Due to the conflicts that have been going on for more than 2 months, almost all public and private institutions and organizations in the capital Khartoum have been burned or looted. In Khartoum, where hospitals are not operating, it is said that people lost their lives because treatment could not be performed even in cases requiring simple treatment," he said.
“IT IS IMPORTANT TO ACT TO END THE CIVIL WAR IN SUDAN, A FRIENDLY AND BROTHER COUNTRY”
Calling on the policies that Turkey should pursue regarding Sudan, Kaya said, "Our country, which has historical ties with Sudan, must first force the parties to a permanent ceasefire and then to a permanent agreement in order to stop this war, which has no other result than harming the Sudanese people. It is important for Turkey to take an initiative to end the civil war in the friendly and brotherly country of Sudan by establishing a rapid diplomatic traffic with the countries of the region, especially the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the African Union. In addition, in order to ensure that the warring parties can sit at the negotiating table, it is essential that Turkey appoint a special representative and that this representative starts working to ensure that Sudan is removed from this difficult situation by meeting with both sides."
