Mothers who came together under the leadership of the Ankara Palestine-Friendly Mothers Platform addressed the international public in front of the UNICEF and UN Office in Ankara.
Speaking on behalf of the platform, Atty. Elif Yurtoğlu called for stopping Israel's genocide against Gaza women and children on the 78th anniversary of the United Nations.
Yurtoğlu pointed out that the decisions taken in the UN Security Council for the purpose of preserving international peace and security are binding on the states, and pointed out that the use of veto powers by the 5 permanent member countries in the Security Council prevents the protection of international law and order.
"The veto power enjoyed by the permanent members of the United Nations is incompatible with the principle of justice and pluralism. It is also against the principle of equality of states. By using or threatening to use their veto power, Council members can determine the Council's agenda and make decisions in line with their own wishes and interests, preventing decisions that do not suit their interests," Yurtoğlu said.
“ISRAEL DOES NOT RECOGNIZE DECISIONS WITH US SUPPORT”
Reminding that Israel was asked to withdraw from the points it occupied in Palestine and Syria in 1967, Yurtoğlu emphasized that Israel did not withdraw and continued to increase its attacks.
"Since the occupying Israel guarantees the unconditional support of the USA and the veto of the United States against any United Nations decision, it does not implement these decisions and continues its violations. Since October 7, Israel has been massacring all civilians, including women, children, babies and the elderly. Even hospitals and schools, which should be the most protected places, are hit with phosphorus bombs. The illegal and disproportionate force that Israel has systematically applied in the occupied territories for years has turned into mass murder and genocide," Yurtoğlu added.
“WAR CRIMES, CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY AND GENOCIDE ARE COMMITTED IN GAZA”
Stating that Israel continues to commit crimes against humanity despite international law and conventions, Yurtoğlu stated that children and women are most affected by the attacks.
"Although Israel is a party to many international agreements such as the UN Declaration of Human Rights, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, the Convention against Torture, and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, the world's War crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide are being committed in Gaza before his eyes. The United Nations and UNICEF are complicit in all crimes committed," Yurtoğlu said.
