Assoc. Dr. Cihat Yaycı made an assessment of the UN Security Council's statement condemning Turkey.

In the evaluation of Yaycı, "The UNSC's recent anti-Turkey and anti-Turkish Cypriot presence is very worrying for the impartial and fair mission of the United Nations. It is quite meaningful that the UNSC made such a statement after the President of the Senate Menendez's statements against Turkey and his support for Greece and the Greek Cypriot Administration at the US Foreign Relations Senate meeting. The fact that the US government indexes all its foreign policy on Cyprus to Greece and the Greek Cypriot Administration and that the UN develops attitudes compatible with this approach shows that the international arena remains under US domination," he said.

"BASELESS EXPLANATIONS"

Evaluating Turkey's reaction to the UNSC, "As announced by our Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the UNSC was normally expected to publish this text on Wednesday, but following the anti-Turkey statements of the US Foreign Relations Senate, which convened on the same day, the UNSC's postponing the message increased concerns about the UN being an impartial and fair institution. Turkey follows a policy that respects international law and the principle of regional ownership in the Sea of Islands and the Eastern Mediterranean. Countries that cannot reject Turkey's stance that prioritizes justice and equity in the region are trying to put Turkey and Turkish Cypriots under pressure with such baseless and empty statements," he added.

"NO NEED FOR UN POWER IN MARAS"

Yaycı, who also made determinations about Maras, "Within the framework of the Annan Plan submitted to a referendum by the UN on April 24, 2004, it was envisaged that Maras would be handed over to the Greeks, but as a result of the overwhelming majority of the Greeks, 75.38%, the plan and implementation became invalid. Today, we are faced with a UN that tries to satisfy the spoiled attitudes of the Greek Cypriots and Greece. Demanding that the region be handed over to the Greeks, the UN stubbornly demands that Maras be handed over to the Peace Corps. First of all, it is necessary to evaluate the UN Peacekeeping Force regionally and compare it with other Peace Force missions. Today, the UN Peacekeeping Force is on duty in regions where there are quite unstable and intense conflicts such as Sudan, Burundi, Western Sahara and Golan Heights. There is no such need in the Maraş Region," he said.
