In recent years, prices for many necessities, especially food, continue to increase. United Confederation of Public Employees Trade Unions (Birleşik-Kamu-İş) shared the results of its “People's Inflation” survey, which it regularly announces, in August, with the public.
In the research, in which the prices were compiled from the markets in Ankara, it was stated that the price increase of food products continued, while the basket containing 64 products was taken as the basis.
According to the research, while inflation continues to increase, it is stated that the increase in food prices continues despite the arrival of summer, while food prices increased by 12.8 percent in July and by 8.9 percent in August.
While the price increase in the first eight months of the year was 63.3 percent, the annual inflation in food was 102.1 percent.
In the research, which draws attention to the fact that the increase in inflation has continued since September 2021, it was stated that food prices increased by 447 percent in this period.
MEAT AND FISH PRICES RISE 89 PERCENT
According to the research, the prices of bread, rice, flour and bulgur increased by 13.2 percent on average in August compared to the previous month, while the prices of meat and fish group increased by 2.5 percent.
The increase in meat and fish prices since the beginning of the year has approached 89 percent.
In August, compared to the previous month, milk and dairy products and egg prices increased by 13 percent, while the increase in oil prices was 14.9 percent.
In August, when fruit prices increased by 12 percent, vegetable prices increased by an average of 2 percent compared to the previous month.
While pulses prices increased by 5.6 percent in August, the upward trend in other processed food prices, consisting of tomato paste, olives, honey, tea, salt and similar foodstuffs, was 11.7 percent.
It was noted that the increase in food prices increased by 63.3 percent in the eight-month period.
On an annual basis, there has been an increase of 70.1 percent in bread, flour, bulgur and pasta prices, 115.8 percent in meat-fish prices, 55.8 percent in milk and dairy products and egg prices, compared to the same month of the previous year.
Compared to a year ago, oil prices increased by 59.3 percent. Fruit prices increased by 132.3 percent, while vegetable prices increased by 239.6 percent.
Pulses prices increased by 37.2 percent in the last year, while other food prices increased by 71.3 percent. Thus, the annual increase was realized as 102.1 percent.
