Stating that the income from the short-time working allowance covers only a certain part of the workers' expenses, Hak-İş Vice President and Özçelik-İş Union President Yunus Değirmenci said, “40% of the salaries in the unemployment fund is considered to be the 'black day' money. The decrease can also be covered from this fund. We want to know that we are expecting an urgent solution.”

Workers' salaries are reduced by half
Değirmenci said: “Each worker planned according to their earnings in the current conditions, extended his feet to his comforter, and at the point reached today, there was almost a half decrease in the salaries of the workers working in companies applying for short-time working allowance. Income from short-time working allowance was met only a part of our expenses. Considering that the money in the Unemployment Fund is the day of the worker, the 40 percent reduction in salaries can also be covered from this fund. For this reason, we want to know that we are expecting an urgent solution.”
Değirmeci pointed out that workers aged 65 and over and workers with chronic illnesses cannot go to work in order to protect against the epidemic, and demanded that their grievances be eliminated by taking short employment allowance.
THE UNEMPLOYMENT FUND IS FOR TODAY
He stated that the short-term working allowance was calculated as 60 percent of the average daily gross earnings, taking into account the earnings of the insured for the last 12 months, and that the grant amount could not exceed 150 percent of the gross amount of the monthly minimum wage.
Değirmenci said, “According to the gross wages, an insured person receives a short work allowance between 1752 liras and 4 thousand 381 liras. This application is a bit of an ointment to our wound. However, we consider that this allowance should cover 100 percent of our earnings, not 60 percent of our earnings, especially considering the weight of the business and earnings in the normal period of employees who shed the bacteria in heavy business lines such as the metal industry. Our expectation from our President and our government is in this direction.”
