Sıdıka Aydın, Head of the Women's Branch of the Memur-Sen Confederation, said in a statement she made upon the annulment of the Istanbul Convention, that they demanded the revision of the legislation remaining from the agreement and that they will follow this issue. Aydın also requested the views of non-governmental organizations and stakeholders to be taken in the new arrangement to be made.

Sıdıka Aydın, Head of the Memur-Sen Women's Commission, made a statement to our newspaper after the termination of the contract, "As the Memur-Sen Women's Commission, we have been expressing for a long time how justified and even delayed debates about the contract have been rising in society. Because there was an attitude that always distorted the discussions on the subject with the allegation of "the attitude of those who were far from grasping the subject" or "the reactions of those who excuse violence against women". This attitude both prevented the discussion of the convention on a healthy ground and prevented taking healthy steps towards violence. In this context, we consider it an important will to listen to the voice of the nation with the decision to withdraw from the convention and to observe social sensitivity on the issue, and we thank our President," she said.

PROBLEMS ARISING BY THE CONTRACT SHOULD BE REMOVED

Aydın, who stated that some works were started to be carried out to eliminate violence against women after the termination of the contract, was shared with the public and emphasized the importance of taking the opinions of civil society and stakeholders in the new study.

"I would like to emphasize that this situation is at least as important as the termination of the contract, and the importance of taking the opinions of all civil stakeholders in order to ensure social consensus in the works to be carried out for this purpose. In the mediocre we have reached, two issues that we need to work on now come to the fore. The first is to put forward a will to eliminate the problems revealed by the convention and to sign works to eliminate violence against women as a result of new steps to be taken," she added.
