The delegation of the People's Party, which is among the important political parties of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, visited the Geçitkale region of Cyprus within the framework of the "People's Meetings".
In the program attended by Chairman Kudret Özersay, one of the most frequently asked questions by the citizens was the issue of purchasing real estate by foreigners.
Özersay, who listened to the problems of citizens in Geçitkale and answered questions on various issues, also spoke about the purchase of real estate by foreigners.
Özersay, regarding the subject, "As you know, foreigners are restricted in terms of quantity to buy land or housing in their own name. Moreover, such purchases are possible with the decision of the Council of Ministers after the positive report from the intelligence. However, when some purchases are made through companies, no inspection is made and the obstacle of quantity restriction is overcome by purchasing companies in this way. Here is the real danger. In other words, unlimited land can be purchased on behalf of the company by foreigners, who own 49 percent of the companies whose 51 percent shares are held by TRNC citizens," he said.
“GOVERNMENT SHOULD INVOLVE IN IT”
Stating that large amounts of land can be purchased through companies in Cyprus, Özersay said that this situation should be brought under control by the state.
Özersay, on the subject, "In summary, large lands can be purchased through companies and obstacles for foreigners can be overcome. At this point, it is obvious that we need to take additional measures as a state. The purchase of goods by foreigners in large quantities and on companies should be scrutinized by the state immediately," he added.
“People are in discomfort”
In the written statement made by the People's Party, important expressions were also used regarding the purchase of immovable property by foreigners.
In that statement, "The damage caused by the concrete construction site to trees and nature in the Geçitkale region on the one hand, and the discomfort caused by the smell caused by the burning garbage dump and oil mill from time to time on the other shows that the environment is not given the necessary importance in this region. Due to such environmental problems, our citizens in the region are disturbed. The purchase of large amounts of land by foreigners in the region in the recent period is another inconvenience, so land purchases should be scrutinized," it was said.
On the other hand, the statement emphasized the importance of planned investment in the region by taking into account the infrastructure.
"Of course, the sale of land can be, of course, investment is important and the people of the region of course want their property to increase in value, but large land sales to foreigners should be scrutinized," the statement added.
