Karaduman, who gave a parliamentary question to the Presidency of the Turkish Grand National Assembly with the request of the Minister of Family and Social Services Derya Yanık to answer, asked whether the ministry has a work on the prevention of increasing suicide cases.
Saadet Party Konya Deputy and Head of Youth Branches Abdulkadir Karaduman brought the increased cases of suicide to the agenda of the Turkey Grand National Assembly (TBMM) after the full closure decision announced within the scope of the Covid-19 pandemic measures. Karaduman, who asked the Parliament Presidency for a response from the Minister of Family and Social Services Derya Yanık, said that the suicide incidents reached a worrying point.
The events are alarming
Saying that there was a significant increase in suicide incidents, Karaduman said. "During the pandemic period, reasons such as financial difficulties, increasing unemployment, cost of living, losing hope of the future lead to suicide. Coffee shop shopkeeper Nuri Çengeloğlu, who committed suicide in İzmir last March, and Murat Gümüş, who worked as a cokeeper in Mersin Mut, ended their lives the other day, and Erdal Şenözpak, a 10-year-old coffeehouse tradesman in İzmir's Buca district, closed at noon on Saturday, May 1. committed suicide in his coffeehouse. It is known that these people, whose workplaces were closed during the epidemic, were depressed because they could not pay their rent and their debts to the bank. These are the examples reflected in the press, and it can be guessed that these events are of alarming proportions, although they are not reported in the press."
WHAT WILL YOU DO TO PREVENT SUICIDE EVENTS?
Karaduman, who asked 5 questions to the Minister of Family and Social Services Derya Yanık to answer, he asked "How many suicide attempts were there in the first four months of 2021? What is the number of those who committed suicide, and the distribution by years of those who ended their lives due to unemployment, financial difficulties, debts? Does your Ministry have a research and solution policy for the increasing number of suicides and especially female suicides? Do you have any plans to increase employment especially in rural areas to reduce unemployment problem and related suicides? What work do you do to overcome the financial distress, which is the most important factor that drives citizens to commit suicide?"
