The citizen, who has been paying for the grocery shopping bags since 2019 and advertising the market chains for free, has now rebelled. Citizens speaking to the Milli Gazete do not want to pay for the grocery shopping bags and do not accept that companies advertise on them. Stating that the grocery shopping bags fee, which is said to be applied for environmental awareness, is now poured into trade, citizens demand that recycled paper bags be given free of charge.

"WE DON'T WANT TO GIVE MONEY TO THE BAGS"

In line with the decision taken by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, as of January 1, 2019, the issue of buying shopping bags for a certain fee continues to be discussed in the public. While the application divides the citizen into two, there are those who support the situation in question and those who do not. While the disagreements about selling shopping bags to consumers for a fee seem to continue, another dimension of the issue is the advertisements on the bags. While it is being discussed how ethical and legal it is to advertise to the citizens with the citizens' money, citizens are also reacting to the situation.

"BAGS SHOULD DEFINITELY BE SINGLE LIKE PLAIN WHITE"”

Citizens, whom we asked their opinions about whether the bags purchased in shopping contain advertisements, made important evaluations to our newspaper. Speaking to the Milli Gazete, a citizen said that he did not find it right to have an advertisement or logo on the bags.

A consumer speaking to our newspaper, "I think it is a good practice to charge a fee in order to reduce the environmental pollution and waste effect of the use of bags in the markets. But these bags should definitely be something uniform like plain plain white, let alone having a logo or advertisement on it, sometimes even the color can evoke a market, so I think this practice should return to a uniform bag format," he said.

“THEY ADVERTISE WITH MY MONEY”

Another citizen, whose opinions we received on the subject, said that it is wrong to even charge for the bags, let alone the advertisements on the bags. Another citizen certifying the aforementioned citizen, "I think it is wrong to take money in the bag. They already take money for shopping, and they also buy it for a bag," he said.

Another citizen stated that it is not right to advertise through shopping bags.

"I think it's wrong. Nylon bags should not be used. If the purpose is to prevent environmental pollution, paper bags should be used. Paper bag can be used. They are advertising with my money," a consumer said.

“CHAIN MARKETS ARE ADVERTISED BY MAKING THE CONSUMER TO PAY MONEY”

Another citizen who evaluated the issue of advertising on shopping bags for our newspaper said that a step should be taken by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization to use a single type of bag. Speaking to the Milli Gazete on the subject, the citizen said, "In the current practice, it is definitely not right for the consumer to pay for the bags with the names of the chain stores. Chain markets are advertised by giving money to consumers. In order for the application to reach its goal, I think that uniform bags determined by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization should be produced," he said.

“THEY TURNED IT INTO TRADE”

The President of the Confederation of Turkish Tradesmen and Craftsmen (TESK), Bendevi Palandöken, was among the names that reacted to placing advertisements on the bags purchased for a fee in shopping.

Commenting on our newspaper, Palandöken emphasized that the practice of taking the bag with a fee is no longer correct.

Palandöken said that such an application has been started in order to raise awareness of the citizens, and that the citizens have gained the necessary environmental awareness at the point reached.

"It should not be a bag for money. Small traders already give the bag for free. Big places make money and advertise with this application," said.
