The results of the Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS), which millions of students are waiting for, were announced the other day. After the announcement of the exam results, Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) also shared the statistics about the exam with the public. While the average number of correct answers in the shared data caused the experts to be concerned, the experts received a call regarding the system.

Bursa Uludağ University Faculty of Education, Educational Sciences Lecturer Prof. Dr. Selahattin Turan, who made a statement to our newspaper about the published statistics, pointed out that the education systems that put students in a certain order are behind the times.

"This exam-oriented structure protects 10 percent. In these exams, the criteria are a technical order. The 2022 YKS results reveal the deadlock in education," he said.

LOW IN THE CORRECT ANSWER RATE ATTRACTED ATTENTION

According to the average of correct answers shared with the public, 17.7 in the Turkish test of 40 questions in 2022- Core Proficiency Test (TYT); 7.9 in the 20-question social sciences test; There is an average of 6.9 correct answers in the 40-question basic Mathematics test and 3.2 in the 20-question Science test.

According to the averages of the AYT Turkish Language and Literature-Social Sciences-1 test, 6.6 in the 24-question Turkish Language and Literature test; 2.6 in the 10-question History-1 test; While it had an average of 2.9 in the 6-question Geography-1 test, it was 1.9 in the 11-question History-2 test in the AYT Social Sciences-2 test; 3.6 in the 11-question Geography-2 test; 2.1 in the 12-question Philosophy test; In the Religious Culture and Moral Knowledge/Additional Philosophy group with 6 questions, it was announced as 1.4. According to the statistics, the low rates were remarkable.

“WE NEED A NEW EDUCATION AND SCHOOL DESIGN”

Emphasizing that the results of the exam show that there is a need for a new education and school design, Turan stated that in the new system, attention should be paid to the development of children.

"It is not a test that meets the expectations of the new generation. The new generation has different, freedom-loving personalities. In my opinion, these zero-suffering friends are doing passive resistance. It is not normal for 100,000 students to draw zero. This elimination system has no chance to carry Turkey into the future. Turkey needs a new understanding and system in which no child is eliminated," he added.
